Mehluli Moyo, the other half of the now defunct group Afrika Revenge, has hinted on a possible reunion with his former band member Willis “Afirika” Wataffi, but did not say when fans should expect it. Mehluli, who is popularly known as Taz by his fans, said he and Wataffi decided to pursue solo careers, but a reunion was still in the pipeline.
“We decided to do solo projects, but a reunion is possible, you never know,” Taz said.
In a recent interview with Star FM’s Breakfast Club hosts Comfort Mbofana and Bongai Zamchiya, Taz opened up saying they made a business decision to split, but there was no bad blood between the two.
Asked how he composes songs, Taz said music comes naturally although at times he begins with a melody before he writes the lyrics.
And when asked how he came up with the chart topper “Idholo Phansi”, Taz said it was a dedication to his late friend, Prince Tendai Mupfurutsa.
The song has become an instant hit among Star FM listeners as every DJ enjoys the song.
According to Taz, a video to the song is out.
Afrika Revenge became a household name with the release of their debut Khaya Music which features the hits “Memo” written by Taz, “Buwe Buwe” and “Wanga” both written by Willis.
While Taz has been quiet, his former colleague, Willis, has been busy on the music scene. Since their split in 2006 he has released two solo albums, “Zhizha — A Time to Grow” in 2007 and “Qaya Rootz” in 2009, a third one is expected soon.
Wataffi has also staged numerous shows throughout the country and beyond.
Having started their musical career in Bulawayo, Afrika Revenge later moved to Harare, where there is a big market for their music.
At the time of their split, Afrika Revenge was one of the few Zimbabwean groups that had great potential for international appeal because of the superb quality of their music.
The group wrote their piece of history when they bagged four accolades for Song of the Year for “Wanga”, Best Male Artiste, Best Jazz Album, and Best Newcomer at the Zimbabwe Music Awards in 2004 and Outstanding Album for their debut album Qaya Music at the National Arts Merit Awards in 2005. деньги в долг
